keeping company with plants

The journey begins this month! All of my lovely outdoor plants will soon make their migration to the land of the indoors and begin cohabiting with these guys and their friends. It’s about to get crowded up in here. I’m terrified.

For tips on migrating your plants indoors, see my post over at ReadyMade … How To: Not Kill Your Plants This Fall.

Happy Fall!

brilliant reuse: vintage jewelry = glam magnets

New blog I am in love with alert! Julias Poppies Design is penned by a graphic designer who I wish had designed my own wedding invites. Can I maybe get married all over again – to the same fella, of course — and hire her for all of my paper needs? I’m especially enamored by this suite for a couple who recently got hitched.

What I really like about her blog is the DIY projects. I recently wrote about her paint chip garland over at ReadyMade and ended up making one of my own for our Five Ladies Rummage Sale. Now she goes and knocks me off my feet all over again with this crazy gorgeous vintage magnet tutorial.

This is the side of my fridge right now. It needs some pep and I’m getting ready to change some of the photos out for Fall. Using estate sale sourced costume jewelry, magnets and some glue, the earring magnets look quick to put together and will be a perfect match for my Circa Ceramics magnets from Renegade last year. Check out the full tutorial and let’s make some magnets!

behind the scenes of our first rummage sale

Extra Extra! Rummage sale tips are up over at ReadyMade. We had an awesome time. Thanks to all of you who came out, all of the gals that participated and the Mister for being the go-to lemonade guy.

The next one will be here before you know it! This time on a Saturday, for real.

bookshelf

I must have books on the brain. First my Memento Monday post about a bookend; that led to me seek out vintage bookends on Etsy for a post at ReadyMade. Now I’m staring down my Ikea shelves and bored with the haphazard placement of everything perched upon them. Today is the day I redo it all. Similar to what I accomplished two weekends ago in the kitchen, editing and prettifying will change the whole space with no money down! Say that in a used car salesman voice one time.

my urban casita

As always, the accessories that keep my lovely books company are thrifted. The birdcage came from Village Discount Outlet, –my rundown– the white pot and pink change bowl from Salvation. The frames are also from one thrift store or another. We’ll see if they make the cut this morning. Can’t wait to take photos and update you when I’m done.

plate love + positive friday

Happy Happy Friday! How great to have made it to the end of another work week.

I wrote about plate walls today for ReadyMade and, while browsing the internets for photos to go with the post, came across this lovely shot via Design Shrine. How much do you love? Head on over to the comments at Inside, Out and tell me if you think plate walls are awesome or awful. We all know my opinion: ♥.

What are your weekend plans? I think I’d like to add on to my own plate walls, especially the one outside. Also on the agenda: spray painting, thrifting, resting, movie watching, hip-hop listening, dancing, going to market and maybe, just maybe tackling that sod job. Heatwave be damned, I’ll just drink a lot of water!

Best weekend wishes to all!

hunted house washington dcthe Mister loves resale shopping, too

I posted about Hunted House, a resale shop in DC that I fell in love with, over at ReadyMade today. Read all about it and tell me about your favorite resale shops in the comments. Have a great Thursday!

an urban dig: my first estate sale

… up over at Inside, Out. Read all about it here.

How much do you love my grown-up credenza?

recreating in cape town

I came across Recreate, an online shop based in Cape Town, while doing more research on those beloved suitcases sitting in my front room and posted about artist Katie Thompson’s suitcase chairs over at ReadyMade today.  Now, I’m browsing through some of her other pieces.

How cool are these cookie vases?

Katie says, “Yesterday’s baked batch… Today’s fresh field. This baking tray was left out in the rain… it would never bake again… framed in a Perspex box, it is now the Cookie-Vase…”

Check out more of her reuses here.

P.S.  She ships worldwide!

how to: have a stock the bar party

jyf-3

Did you catch my post over at Inside, Out last week? I learned about these neat-o parties from a co-worker and now I am dying to have one.

Embarrassingly, I was looking for some silly photos of parties we’ve had in the past to go with the post and almost every single one went completely against one of my rules for the stock-the-bar party.

That blue or red Solo cup. Dammit.

Even at street festivals?  For shame!  Looks like I’ve got some glassware shopping in my future.
